Still wanted to show you this one...
Not so long ago, there was a contest on Sidequesting.com, by sidequesting and by Dwayne Vance / FutureElements
, asking to create a Hot Rod for a Video Game or just a Futuristic one.
And me, like I am, I had to participate, of course!
But I did not just participate, I got the third place! I was quite surprised, 'cause I'm not such a big designer (yet
) and there were a lot of good entries... maybe because mine was for a video game and there weren't that many especially for a video game... and it's quite crazy! Anyway, now I'm getting a book from Dwayne Vance! Yes!
(here you can go to the winners' announcement and from there you can see the sets 1-5 with all the entries: [link]
At the beginning, I was just sketching a bit and trying out some futuristic rod designs, but not specifically connected to a video game or so (you can see those sketches in the image).
But then, I got that crazy, really crazy idea to do a rod for the Video Game "Mirror's Edge".
I'm not really a gamer and I never gamed that one, but it's a successful and special game, because you got to do parcour in sort of a white utopia. And you see what the main character (she's called Faith) sees, so it's a very special point of view!
So the idea to create a rod for "Mirror's Edge" is crazy 'cause it's a game about parcour and parcour is about moving from building to building and from obstacle to obstacle. But then I thought... and now it gets really crazy: why would then not the car do the parcour?
It's a completely absurd thought, but it kinda stuck in my mind and I started to work on it... and well, now it's the final result!
I firstly didn't know how to make it possible that you could drive as well as stand while being in that motorbike-like position, but then i got the idea to make a circle where you can move the "arms" and "legs" all around.
Faith is not around anymore, now you got a new character, Hope, but which looks quite similar to the first one... does this mean something? But she got a new suit, a special one that also connects to the hot rod when she's driving.
The police also got an upgrade!
The hot rod design is inspired by the game, the overall cabin form from the logo, it got the tattoo and the lines from below the eye in the middle of the circle.
It's quite a simple design, with many very specific forms,so it was quite easy to reproduce it from different sides...
Small inspirations were transformers (for the "arms" and "legs") and tron legacy (for the interior).
I don't know how it would work as a computer game, but let's not care about that!
And the "arms" and "legs" might be a bit thin to endure all the physical forces, but then I thought that if it was possible to create such a vehicle, this would not be a problem anymore!
I'm not quite sure if it's still a hot rod, it's kinda like a motorbike-hotrod-mecha! But as I got 3rd place, it probably is one!
Hope you guys like it.
